Canon

Born the son of Loaith and Varan Araquenosse, Dante grew up mostly away from home in the company of his mother and future fiancée.  When they were of age, they wed; it was a mutual friendship, and while it wasn’t quite love it was obvious the two cared about each other.

Myrzka, unfortunately, died during childbirth, leaving Dante with a daughter.  Grief-stricken and unwilling to raise a daughter without a mother, Dante left Dveyr in the care of her extended Drowan family and returned to Iliodean, assuming the position of head diplomat and treaty negotiator.

At some point during this time, he met Telbianna on his way back from a journey he’d been making, and the two entered into a sexual relationship.  Dante would end up returning seven times to her village whenever the potato harvest came to aid her and be with her.  It was on the sixth visit that he found out that he’d fathered a child, Jarnel.  On the seventh, he returned to find out Telbianna had died of an illness; Dante took Jarnel with him back to Iliodean and gave him to an Elven family after deciding he was not a worthy father.  Dante still had contact with his son, however, and the youth hero-worships him, though he does not know that Dante is his sire.

It was around this point that Dante met Tyrius; the exact time is unknown, but slowly but surely the two entered into a relationship that was highly abusive.  Tyrius at one point raped Dante, and the Elf nearly died; Varan, enraged, exiled Tyrius from Iliodean and forbade him return.

Dante was single for a bit after that and eventually entered into a love-hate relationship with Gilanuir, who mercilessly teased him and who infuriated Dante to no end; the deciding factor in bringing them together was an incident where an Elf named Arius kissed Dante.  Gilanuir, understandably furious, then proceeded to beat up Arius, hoist Dante over his shoulder, carry him into the bedroom and demand a kiss.  And thus, they had sex.

Over the years Gilanuir opened up Dante’s closed, cold heart to many things—the major one being children.  Over the course of the years Dante and Gilanuir would acquire three—Aldean, Leothin and Linden.

They lived in relative peace until one day Gilanuir, driven to powerlust by the sword he carried—one of twelve weapons that sheathed part of the soul of a god of war—killed Dante.  The God of the Dead, taking mercy on him, purged his memories of his past life, especially those regarding Gilanuir, and Linden had to wander into death itself to retrieve her father and bring back his memories.

Upon his return Dante joined the battle against the Wielders—in the process he had to kill Gilanuir.  He was one of the ones to join Linden in her venture to the Astral Plane to take out Hiedamil himself, and as such was the only one who remembered his daughter when she sacrificed her own identity in order to restore things to the way they had been—without the weapons.

From that point on it is unclear what became of Dante, though it is most likely that he joined his family in venturing away from the continent when the Atlanteans attacked Kornith, took control and forbade magic from being used.

AU-verse

The main difference in this universe is that Dante has traces of demonic blood within him—the end result is that he turned out to be something of a hermaphrodite.  This enabled him to conceive and bear children—as such, Aldean and Leothin are his biological children, in the sense that he gave birth to them, and Linden does not exist in this universe.  The incident with the swords also did not come to pass, although this could have just been a trick of the timing.

Shinkami School of Saviors

Most of his past is canon, up to when his wife gave birth to their daughter, though she died of the wound instead of from childbirth itself.  He was sealed away with the rest of his race when the humans began attacking them in the Middle Ages; they were unsealed in the year 2017.  Two humans named Norman Prinwaltz and Herei Fang stumbled upon the village and met Dante; it was Dante who conceived the idea of a school dedicated to teaching humans how to harness the magic of the patron Goddesses of each race to defeat the aliens that were attacking them.  Dante, however, chose to let Prinwaltz be the Headmaster while he assumed the role of Advisor; why he did so is still a mystery.

In a recent storyline he ventured with a few fellow teachers and a few of his students into China to investigate brutal murders that had happened there; it was the first time his battle magic was shown, though he could only use light magic, or that which fell under the dominion of Mana (the patron Goddess of the Elves).

It was in China that the tension between Dante and Greg finally came to a head.  After the incident, Dante revealed he knew Greg’s past and that he was a deserter from the Royal Guard and blackmailed Greg with an ultimatum—either never speak to him again, or risk losing his job when he told the Headmaster.  Greg chose the former option, and right now the two are at a rough stalemate, with Dante suffering mentally from whether his decision was the right one.

Personality:  For the most part, Dante is an impersonal and calculating intellectual; he avoids making intimate relationships whenever he can and prefers to be stand-offish to others.  He can also be cruel and a jerk, using desperate means to threaten people and keep them from forming attachments to him, which turns many people away from connecting with him at all.

Nevertheless, he is shown to have positive traits; he possesses a dry and ironic streak of humor and sarcasm.  Most of them are based on his observations and conclusions of events that he is witness to, and he appears to be in possession of a very spastic sense of humor.  It is this side we see most commonly when he sporks.

When befriended, Dante has a very warm and helpful personality, more of a willingness to joke around, and a softer, more vurnerable side most others don’t see.  He is like this with his students in Shinkami, a helpful and guiding force nudging them to choose a path for themselves, helping whenever he can.
